Gutsy Goodness is a handmade jewelry company in Poway, CA established in 2015 by husband-and-wife duo, Joel and Lisa Copen. They
began making inspirational quote jewelry at the kitchen table when Joel was laid off from his job unexpectedly and Lisa was brainstorming volunteer jewelry gift ideas for her ministry. Within a year they were on Etsy and Amazon Handmade and even invited to Seattle as part of Amazon’s first Handmade Round-table along with 9 other small businesses.
Before Gutsy Goodness, Lisa established a nonprofit national group for those with chronic illness, as she has lived with rheumatoid arthritis for 30 years. Her heart has always been with those who deal with challenges in life that are unseen by others — which is nearly every one of us!
Each jewelry piece is designed by Lisa, and then printed, sealed on a glass pendant, and made into a necklace or key chain by their artisan team members. With each piece she designs, Lisa has a specific person and message in mind. Every jewelry design is packaged in a gift box and includes a message card ready to encourage or inspire someone.

Joel and Lisa have come a long way since 2015. They went from a work-at-home team to moving into a 3000 SF office/warehouse space in the Poway Business Park in April of 2021. They currently have 7 employees, all Poway residents.
